There are many advertising companies on the Internet that offering pay per click services to website owners and bloggers. Some of popular pay per click advertising companies are Google Adsense, Yahoo Publisher Network, Adbrite, Bidvertiser and Clicksor. And among all of these advertising companies, Google Adsense is the most popular and used pay per click advertising program.
We need to apply for these advertising companies with a website or blog of our own before using their ads on our websites. And once our account gets approved, we are able to show their Ads on our websites by adding some Java Scripts code on our website where we want to show their ads. These companies give us lots of ad format and ad customizations options so that we can customize the ads according to our website design and our own interest. We can even customize these ads in such a manner that they look as a part of your website content.
So here is some brief introduction about some of most popular PPC programs available today on Internet for us to make extra amount of money with our websites:
- Google Adsense: is the oldest and most popular advertising program used by webmasters and bloggers around the world. Google offers many varieties of ads like text ads, image ads, ‘image and text ads’ and video ads. Adsense gives us the opportunity to make hundreds or even thousands of dollars per month with our website depending upon the kind of traffic and niche our website exists. Once we have added the Adsense ads on a webpage, Google shows ads according to the kind of content we are offering on that page and according to the user’s destination from where they are accessing our website.
- Yahoo Publisher Network (YPN): is very similar to Google Adsense as YPN is also offering the same kind of adverting options to its publishers as Google Adsense is offering. But the only drawback that we have with YPN is that, it is available for publishers in America only. So if you are in India or any other county except USA, you are not eligible for Yahoo publisher network. Read more…
In the morning I was reading this very interesting story by Melvin, he explains how Big Daddy Google banned him for violating Terms of Service of using their most popular advertising program Google AdSense. I know him very well, He is a great guy but some how he did it unintentionally, well he is not the only person who breaches the AdSense Terms of Service, we always overlooked reading terms and conditions in a hurry for signing up to the best money making tool available for bloggers.
Let me produce here few common mistakes which bloggers generally do and get banned by Daddy Google. One should avoid these mistakes in order to protect AdSense account from getting banned by Google.
[1] Never try to click your own AdSense ads
This is actually what Melvin did and got banned. He was clicking his own Ads. Clicking your own ad inventory is a sin (and I mean it). If you are doing this then you are inviting Google to throw you out of their AdSense Program. Also do not ask your office partners, associates or friends to click on them. Don’t even think of offering incentives for clicks, using automated clicking tools, or other deceptive software. Google is very smart to detect fraudulent clicks
[2] Don’t change the AdSense code
This is the second most common mistake people do. There are enough means of AdSense optimization and customizations available to change the color, background or border to suit your website needs. Do whatever you want to do leaving aside the code, never fiddle within the ad or the search code. They know it when you do it. Read more…
1. Standard Banner Ads
Banner ads are my favorite way to make money via blogs and can provide a large steady stream of income for you. Once you start getting 1-2k + visitors a day you find it easier to attract sponsors. As your blog grows in traffic you can start increasing your advertising rates. I recommend not locking up sponsors for more then 3 months when you start, because of you grow fast you won’t be able to raise prices on sponsors who are already locked in.
It is important to use standard size banners on your site or you will make advertising on your site a hassle for sponsors, which can be enough to see sponsors pass by. You also need to make it clear you are accepting sponsors, what your traffic is and what your rates are per month.
When it comes to actually getting sponsors, many blog owners just sit around for months hoping sponsors find their site to advertise on. Many will, but you can make a lot more money if you are aggressive about filling your banner spots and contacting potential sponsors directly!
2. Text Links
Selling text links that are “follow links”, meaning they help sites rank better in the search engines is against Google terms of service, but many blog owners still resort to this as a way to make money online. I personally do not like to sell text links, but many blog owners do so quietly. You could add “nofollow” tags to the links, which tells search engines not to count the link, but you need to make this clear to sponsors, because many are seeking the potential ranking benefit and do not just want traffic. If you are going to make your links “nofollow” you should place the links in a high visibility zone so that sponsors actually get a decent amount of traffic.
3. Product Reviews
Product reviews have been gaining in popularity, due to the fact that its an easy way to tap into a large reader base of a blog. Not only can sponsors get “follow” links to their site which relates to #2 in our list, but the post will be seen by a majority of the active blog readers, which makes it superb for brand awareness. Here are some of the best Google Adsense Tips and Tricks
a. Strictly follow the rules mentioned in Adsense policies. You will always earn more revenue from Adsense by playing it clean.
b. Never modify the Google Adsense HTML code. If have trouble embedding AdSense code in your WordPress or Blogger template, take help of the AdSense support forums or send an email to your AdSense account manager.
c. Never ask your friends or visitors to click on your Google ads. Google takes click fraud very seriously. Do not include incentives of any kind on your site for users to click on your ads. Don’t label Google ads with text other than “sponsored links” or “advertisements.”.
d. Don’t click on your own ads – Google is much smarter than you think and can discover invalid clicks through IP addresses, site navigation patterns, etc. If you working on a new design for your site, avoid reloading your pages (with AdSense) excessively. You can turn off AdSense temporarily and avoid invalid CPM impressions. Or you can use the unofficial Google Adsense Sandbox Tool that is accessible from Firefox, IE and other browsers to see what kind of Google ads will be served based on content (website address URL) or keywords.
